My Blog Has Made It To Page 1 Of Google…

I have to write you a quick note to let you know something that makes me very happy indeed:

The blog I created step-by-step whilst writing my ebook Affiliate Marketing S.O.S. has made it to Rank #7 on the first page of Google’s SERP’s – for my main long-tail keyword “healthy diet weight loss“! Whoooooooooo!!! Rank #7 out of 63,700,000 results for the search term “healthy diet weight loss”! BTW, that keyword gets searched for around 10,000 times a month 😉

So, I guess I am doing something right! 😉 I am off to enjoy my victory for as long as I can; we all know that Google loves to “dance” and throw search results around from time to time… So if my blog isn’t on page one any more some time down the track, then you will just have to take my word for it that it actually happened!

If you can find my blog on page 1 of Google’s SERP’s, I would love to hear a short comment! Thanks! I am all smiles…. 🙂

    1. Rob, I think the secret lies in truly optimizing your domain and posts for your main keywords, and just to provide good content and keep building your backlinks by commenting on other blogs, taking part on forums and submitting your site to directories etc. But I am really thrilled – for a long time I couldn’t see my blog anywhere near the top at all, and then BANG! 🙂

  1. Congratulations Petra,

I remember when I got ranked on the first page for an obscure, unloved keyword phrase and I was chuffed so you should be over the moon. Thats a real success. You must be providing the relevant information for the relevant people.

    Long may it continue.

    Regards

  2. Hi Petra,

That’s awesome, I expect you will get a fair amount of monthly traffic from that and related keyword searches now.

At the moment I cannot even get on the first page of Google for my name, let anlone a super-competitive keyword with 63 million other results!

  3. I would like to congratulate to you on this great achievement. Your blog is really nice, I’m a regular visitor of your blog and it provide me great information always..

  4. @Rob, online directories are websites that list all sorts of other websites in different categories, a bit like the “yellow pages” if you want. One of the biggest ones is http://www.dmoz.org/. These online directories have certain page rank as well, and the more directories your site appears in the better for the visibility, traffic and PR of your site as you are actively building one-way backlinks to your site and creating traffic channels. Just make sure you list your site in the right categories.
Submitting to Directories can be quite time consuming, I like to do it through Directory Maximizer http://www.petra-weiss.com/recommends/DirectoryMaximizer.php – you only pay $0.14 per submission and they are really professional. Remember what Alex said about outsourcing? 😉

    1. @ Peter, I have not listed my site Healthy Diet Weight Loss on DMOZ, what I did I paid DirectoryMaximizer for submitting my site to different directories; saves me a lot of time! I also made sure from the start that I had my main keyword as domain name; and I posted quite a few posts containing this keyword phrase. I am trying to optimize my posts for the search engines by picking keywords that have a good search volume but low competition. I have actually not done much on forums or other blogs at all. Just a few comments or posts here and there… I made sure though that when I commented on other blogs that they were do-follow and possibly with a top commentator plugin. That’s it – I really haven’t spent much time on other blogs or forums. I should, though, because that will generate more traffic, too! 🙂 I hope I was of help!

  5. Thats great thanks – I’m very short on time and falling behind so I think I’ll probably go down a similar route.

I am finding with the commentsy on peoples blogs it takes about 10-15 minutes each one to read then post if you want to add value = awful lot of time one doesn’t have!

Well done on the ranking BTW

    1. @Peter, it does take a lot of time to comment on blogs and post in forums if you want to add some thoughtful comment or thread, that’s what I find as well, but we should really do it in our spare time 😉 because it brings in traffic and more backlinks to our blogs.

  6. I am putting all my efforts into commenting on other blogs at the moment, very time consuming when you are trying to add value – the next step is a video then start looking at DMOZ etc.

    1. @Rob Canyon, that’s a fantastic result! See, you are miles ahead of me when it comes to video producing…. 🙂

  7. Great achievement. 63 million.

Isn’t it a great feeling. I have been messing around in this business for about six months and finally started to find my feet.

One of my new sites was indexed at number 11 of 3 million results. Even without getting any financial reward, it sure puts a smile on your face.

    1. @Eugene, funny you should say that, that’s exactly what I have been thinking – that many searches, and on page 1, I would have to have heaps of visitors, but for some strange reason it’s not happening yet. Anybody got any idea why that might be? My SEM Rush price for that site has gone up to 426 meaning I seem to have a fair bit of traffic, but I don’t. I get an average of 14 visitors a day right now! That’s nothing. I am really baffled. 🙁

  8. I might be able to answer that question Petra. Unfortunately Google uses personalized search which means that the sites you like will rank better. If you create sites this will often mean that on your computer you will rank high, when you’re actually a bit down.

In this case you have place 105 according to searches. I recommend you to ask a friend who hasn’t visited the site earlier or maybe if you could use a public computer. By doing so you’ll see the “real” position.

    1. @Stefan, thanks for your input – it makes sense. I was on page 1 for a couple of weeks or so, confirmed by others, but right now I cannot find my blog in the SERP’s first few pages any more. I will have to do a bit more SEO, I think!

  9. You are no more on page 1 but congrats all the same. I still dream of the day that I’ll be on page 3 or 4. I spend HUGE! amount of time commenting and viewing blogs but still no show. I’m already following you(in blog and twitter) hope you reciprocate

    1. @Stanmarx, thanks for the follow, will now reciprocate! BTW, there is some writing on your blog that is very hard to read (black on blue). Might be worth changing…

  10. I’m trying to rank for the keywords “Blogging & Make Money Online Tips”. The very day I decided to do some onsite SEO, my blog was on page 3 for those keywords. 24hours after applying some onesite SEO to rank for that keyword, I was catapulted to position no 6 on Page 1 of the SERPS.
Unfortunately, I think Google detected their mistake 😉 and flung me straight off the first 10 pages of the SERPS. Right now I’m trying to do some backlinking/offsite SEO via article marketing to see if that helps in getting me back into the top 10 pages of the SERP and subsequently Page 1.;)
My advice to you, is to get more backlinks using that long tail keyword as your anchor text. My blog is also dofollow and you could get a backlink from it too. Just use Petra Weiss@Healthy Diet Weight Loss in the name field and http://www.healthydietweightloss.com/ in the URL field.
    Best of luck.

  11. @Peter Davies: Commenting takes time but can be fun especially if the topic is an interesting one and you’ve got something to say. Since I don’t have internet access @ home, I make sure to update my Firefox Newsfox Rss Reader with interesting blogs especially dofollow blogs. Each time, I go the cybercafe, I quickly update the feeds for reading in my leisure time. During this time, if I find any post what commenting on, I simply copy the URL of the post to Notepad, type out my comment beneath it and then save it. On my next trip to the cybercafe, I copy and paste all the comments and in less than 5 minutes I’m done.
Some blogs receive up to 3-5 comments from me in less than 5 minutes and @ first they think I’m spamming them until they read the comments and then see that the comments are meaningful.

    1. @Udegbunam, I think Google was doing its dance! If you keep up the SEO work, you should return to better rankings for sure! I will take your advice and head over to your blog to get a backlink, thanks! 🙂

  13. A hearty congratulations! Although I wonder if half of those 10K searches are you checking your rankings continually 🙂 … just kidding.

I agree, it comes down to optimizing your posts, titles, content… and some nice backlinks. Oh, and often it depends on the strength of your competition. Some of the keywords I’d like to rank for have very weighty competitors.

    Once again, congrats!

    1. @Paul, you know – you might be right!!! It might be me!!! 😮 Just kidding too. But you know what, my blog seems to have landed on spot #22 for the moment, gotta keep working at optimizing posts and getting some more backlinks! Would have been to good to be true…
