Get Backlinks To Your Site Or Blog – CommentLuv and KeywordLuv

Get some Luv

Get some Luv

I have to throw this post in as a follow up on my previous post on how to get backlinks to your site or blog. I have to admit, I have been a little sneaky. I knew what I am about to reveal already before and could have posted it straight away, I just thought it would do nice in a second post! πŸ˜‰

Anyway, apart from commenting on do-follow blogs, there are blogs out there that actually have CommentLuv and KeywordLuv enabled. I will explain that in a minute. But I can tell you right away, if you can find a blog that has all 3 parts enabled (do-follow, CommentLuv and KeywordLuv), plus it is related to your niche, you have found absolute GOLD!

Now, what actually are CommentLuv and KeywordLuv? And how are they used to get backlinks to your site?

CommentLuv is a plugin (for WordPress, Blogger, Typepad and Godaddy) that, when installed on a blog, will reward the readers of that blog with a backlink to their latest blog post if they leave a comment. It is actually encouraging people to comment as they are getting another valuable backlink to their own site by doing so.Β  Plus it is worth thinking about installing it on your own blog, as it is most likely to increase traffic and comments, thus making up for any “linkjuice” loss you might experience by the extra backlinks to other sites.

KeywordLuv is another plugin (this one, as far as I know, only for WordPress, but correct me if I am wrong) which rewards commenters (does this word even exist? “Commentator” can’t be right, though, can it?) by allowing them to place their keywords as an anchor text to their website when commenting, therefore giving them improved anchor text! Having your keywords as anchor text linking back to your site helps your site to rank better for these keywords with the Search Engines, and has therefore the potential of generating more traffic. There is a great explanation of it on this KeywordLuv Plugin site.

Now, to get CommentLuv you don’t have to do anything special when commenting on other blogs. It happens automatically.

This is different for KeywordLuv. To get KeywordLuv and get this fantastic opportunity to use your keywords as anchor text linking back to your site (glee!), all you need to do is comment on a blog that has KeywordLuv enabled and then where you have to fill in your name, you do it the following way: yourname@yourkeyword. This will then ensure that your site’s address – which you will have to provide as well – will be linked to your keyword! It’s as easy as that. Let’s say I would enter “Petra@Healthy Diet Weight Loss” that would then display as “Petra from Healthy Diet Weight Loss”, and “Healthy Diet Weight Loss” would be linked to my blog (no, not this blog, my other blog about weight loss πŸ˜‰ !)

Pretty cool tools, hey?

Now, to finish up here, I have to supply you with a list of blogs that have those nifty plugins, don’t I? Well, I have come across a few sites that have gone through tremendous trouble to provide us with just that, and we all can be very grateful for it! Here are a couple of lists to get you started, but all you have to do is do a Google search on “KeywordLuv blog list” or “CommentLuv blog list” or something similar, and they will show up!

Untwisted Vortex – DoFollow, CommentLuv and KeywordLuv Blog List

[UPDATE – 23 August 2009 – It looks like Untwisted Vortex has reverted back to no-follow and has also taken the blog list down. πŸ™ ]

SEO Traffic Guide – will give you a list of DoFollow and KeywordLuv blogs

Please remember though: Do leave meaningful comments ( not just “great post” or something similar …) , don’t spam, and like I told you before, the best blogs will be the one’s that have to do with your niche. Keep commenting on “normal” blogs as well, it all helps in the long run πŸ™‚

We know blog commenting can turn into spamming, but if done right and respectfully, commenting can be a good addition to a link building strategy as you know. So we have tweaked a custom google search to search for specific keywords and only return blog posts and web pages built on a popular open source CMS that all allow dofollow links in comments. You can find the search tool at http://commentlinkbuilding.info

  5. Both Plugins are just amazing. love them

  37. Simon says:

Commentluv is a great plug however if the site owner has the nofollow tag on in the comments then it loses half of it’s value since the search engines will not follow it. I guess if people go through the comments section and click on the links I guess it’s okay.
I also like to reward sites that have commentluv and give them some ’sponsorluv’ as a means of thanks. So a couple of clickies are on the way
I enourage others to do the same.

  38. Jessica says:

Nice to see you add this plugin. They should get your blog alot more traffic since people love keyword and comment luv. I’ve seen people talk about the good and bad points but it seems to have helped some sites do very well with alot more traffic and comments and good page rank.

  39. I’m not a pro when it comes to evaluating blogs – and most of what I’ve seen over the years leaves a lot to be desired. But you can take my word for it that your blog is everything they say it is and more! Seriously – nice information. I am so happy to read your blog!

.-= Cat Sneezing´s last blog ..Link Exhange =-.

    • Petra Weiss says:

@Cat, commentluv simply shows the last blog post of the person who is commenting. KeywordLuv actually gives the commentator the possibility to add a keyword to their comment and link it to their blog, thus building very valuable backlinks – if the blog on which is commented has dofollow installed!

  51. Robin says:

I keep getting an error message in the keyword love field, but I want to go ahead and comment on your question can commentator be used in your explanation above? Yes it can. Commentator is “the writer of a commentary” though usually longer. Comment is an explanatary note or remark, and commentary is an explanatory book or set of notes or critical remarks. So maybe 2 posts by one person would qualify. I could not find commenter anywhere, which seems like it would be a word. Remember that Web 2.0 is now an accepted word, so maybe commentor or commenter will become a dictionary word as well. (smile) English is my first language and I am still learning,LOL

    • Petra Weiss says:

@Robin, thanks for clearing that up for me! And is anybody else experiencing problems with keywordluv? If so please let me know and I will try and fix it! πŸ™‚

    • Petra Weiss says:

@Ben, it is very hard to find keywordluv blogs on the Internet. It even looks like the blog I mention in this post as one to list a list of keywordluv blogs has taken the link down and reverted back to nofollow. The best thing to do is every time you stumble upon one just bookmark it and then keep coming back to it. One I found quite good is http://hospitalera.com

  55. jim says:

  62. Tim says:

    @Ruri:
Is there really such a big change that for minor releases (e.g. 2.8.2) all the plugins don’t work anymore? That would be dangerous for WordPress at all, since WordPress is that popular thank to the huge amount of plugins…

  106. Cory says:

I’ve recently stumbled upon this whole CommentLuv and KeywordLuv plugin. It is a great way to find some related blogs and leave relevant comments. The key is to write comment that is just not spammy, but at least to the topic at hand. Otherwise more and more blogs will disable comments or convert to no follow.

so meaning comment luv + keyword luv is a total benefit for commentors, but not only for commentors also for for the blogger for they are actually receiving traffic over and over again..

  108. biju says:

Google can’t ban you for link building , thats what Google is all about. However they can devalue your ranking if your link building is not relevant ( ie. if you have a web marketing blog and you link aggressively to sites unrelated to your niche ) ..Google are on the look for link building activities that are not relevant to your niche and are done by automated bots…Google loves manual and relevant link building.

  109. Thanks for the ideas on the backlinks..I’m going to try it now

It’s good to see some comments that are relevant to Commentluv and Keywordluv, plus add to the subject without sounding trite or spammy. Most of the comments I receive are cookie cutter tripe. I even get the same exact comment from some commentors on all my sites. Come On! I support the premise, but if you find your comment deleted, there is a simple reason.

  113. Daniel says:

    Hi.
These plugins are a nice manner to enhance the experience of the bloggers and commentators. In my experience the best marketing tips are available from real marketers websites and blogs and not from internet courses or the so called experts

  114. admin says:

    Neat thing these plugins.

What I’d suggest to create your own original KeywordLuv, CommentLuv list is to:

    Google(KeywordLuv + wordpress + YourKeywords)
    and
    Google(ComentLuv + wordpress + YourKeywords)

This way, you’ll get blogs and posts related to your keywords πŸ™‚

  118. admin says:

For those wou might need this, I’d suggest to add to the post where you state that your blog is a KeywordLuv, CommentLuv, TopCommentator DoFollow Blog, that you write “please tell, in a few words, the whole world how your blog great is your blog”. This will discourage the “KeywordLuv is great” comment.

And to disable the “Allow comments on this post” in the settings of the post.

This way, commenters can’t comment on the KeywordLuv post, they have to comment on a post relevant with the purpose of the blog.

    Relevant Google search terms include:

    Google(“top commenters” + wordpress + YourKeywords)
    Google(CommentLuv + wordpress + YourKeywords)
    Google(DoFollow + wordpress + YourKeywords)
    Google(KeywordLuv + wordpress + YourKeywords)

This way you hit blogs related with yours.

I think keywordluv is awesome. It’s a real benefit to both the blog owners who are getting a lot more comments which Google see as “fresh content” and of course the commenters who actually get a link in exchange for their participation.

  146. Ben says:

Create great content and post it on your website. When you have great content on your website, you entice other webmasters to share your content on their sites by providing a link back to you

  147. Dena says:

I appreciate the use of both commentluv and keywordluv because it quickly communicates that while the blogger values comments, there is an expectation that commenters behave correctly. This is especially important when a blogger is nice enough to offer a do follow signature link; it sets the expectation that anyone commenting should put a reasonable amount of effort into it.

    Thanks.

  148. sam says:

@Rita, it should say how it works underneath the comment rectangle. Usually all you have to do in the “Name” field is enter your name@your keywords, and it should work!

  152. Emma says:

Great post…just kidding. My wordpress sites are all do follow, and I did have keyword luv installed , but the damned spammers made my life a nightmare. I would spend hours going through comments just to find good ones that were worth publishing , plus I heard when a comment is left the search engines are pinged so it is in my interest to keep getting comments.
But….then I saw comments exactly the same appear on my other sites…So I seached in inverted commas in google for the entire comment and lo there were hundreds , obviously some posting software for posting to thousands of blogs the same comment!

And whats the deal with the Russians and the comment with a hundred links! or the ones that tell a story like ” I went party and been having cake and nice girl smile at me like acai berry buy now(link) an dhse have horse that look like car she say buy acai berry now(link) cheesecake banana dribble cuddly toy etc. etc.

Here is my most recent … “The typical formula is to calculate your pre- operational expenses and add three months worth of your estimated monthly expenses to get your required startup capital. Take note however that depending on the nature of your business, the number of months…” put it in google keeping the quotes and see where the webmaster has posted!
    Emma

Ps ref to vanity sink…Top commenters is the devil…I had to delete that , visitors would come to the site enter the exact same name as a top commenter and substitute their link and that link would then be the top comment on all pages!!
