Technical Problems – Bugger!

For the past day I have had trouble loading my site. Sometimes it doesn’t load at all, then it comes up with “404 – Page not found” error, and other times it breaks up my first sidebar and doesn’t display the second sidebar! Sorry if any of you have experienced this when trying to view my blog, I am trying to figure out whats happening and why, so please hang in there. As I am not a technical computer person, this might take a little while, but I will get there! So thanks for your support and patience!

I think I will have to look at all my widgets, plugins and images – might have overloaded the site whilst trying to give you the best experience when visiting my blog 🙂 Apparently that can happen – too many widgets, plugins and images etc. can considerably slow down loading time of a site.  We will see!

BTW, when I noticed that my site was having problems I immediately opened a support ticket with D9 Hosting (my brilliant hosting company), and they responded literally within minutes, personally! So, thanks, Paula and Dan, for your absolutely outstanding customer service, you have no idea how much it is appreciated!

  1. Looks like you have gotten it straightened out, Petra. Everything looks good for now.

Now that it is running correctly you can finish your 25 things people don’t know about you challenge. (Ahem..cough, cough, hint, hint)

Keep up the good work, we will get there.

  2. Hi Petra,

    Happy Birthday!

I had a problem with sidebars and content sizing about a week ago. I Use WP as well, but I also use Thesis because i love how I can switch back and forth quickly from different column arrangements. I downloaded a GoogleAds plugin for WP and i think that wa what messed mine up. It was pretty erratic. I disabled it and everything went back to normal. (Also, I did not realize that the Google Ads being displayed were the developers, not mine…so another reason to disable)…now I just used the Open Hook function of Thesis to place ads and contect boxes, etc.

So I guess keep an eye on those plugins. Install one at a time and test run them to make sure they are stable.

Unfortunately I had to deactivate the cache plug-in on my site because I’m using a plug-in to hide adsense from non-search engine traffic and php is not supported when using cache plug-ins.

P.S: Not To worry. I ain’t spamming your blog with those links. I’ve even added nofollow to them.;)

  4. @ Petra: Your dofollow plug-in is over-riding the nofollow I added to the links in my previous comment. Sorry about that. Just wanted to let you know less you think I was vying to spam the life out of your blog.

P.S: Check out strictlyonlinebiz-chatter(dot)blogspot(dot)com. It’s also dofollow but I haven’t updated it in a while.

  5. Since installing the KeywordLuv Plugin I have seen a bit of an increase in backlinks so very pleased about that. Couple of spam comments to deal with but I guess that was to be expected. Thanks again.
