The “Getting Organized” Of Internet Marketing
Let's work out a plan of action!
Hey everybody, I am back online! Have been for about 3 or so weeks, to be honest. I just had to play “catch up” with my real life, after 5 weeks offline and a business to run it took (and still takes) a lot of time to re-organize and get up to date with everything. So my Internet Marketing has – again – taken a bit of a back seat.
If you have been reading my blog you have seen that, after lots of trials and errors, I have finally come to realize that the one way for me to earn a living of the Internet is “Building Niche Websites” and earning money through those sites with Google Adsense and Revenue from Affiliate Programs like Amazon.com or Ebay Partnernetwork.
Building Niche Websites is not the only way to earn money on the Internet, for example you can build email lists, too, but I have come to realize that it is not for me as I do not want to have to constantly write emails to my list to make money from it. It’s just not me. Admitted, if you do it right you can probably earn a hell of a lot of money from it, but you need to be prepared to put the expertise and hours into it.
When you build niche websites and monetize them, if you do it right you will have a fair bit of work to do at the beginning, but once you have got yourself established it will become a lot easier to maintain.
No matter what you decide to do – it is absolutely vitally important that you get yourself organized and have a plan. I just read through a post I made about getting organized back in July last year, and I am sad to say that I am back at exactly the same spot as last year. Stuffing around on the net but not achieving anything.
Have a good look at yourself – are you doing the same? Are most of us wasting heaps of time on the Internet trying to make more money but doing it without a proper plan of action, thus failing miserably and asking ourselves WHY?
For me, I also will have to sit down and think about my approach to establishing my niche websites and driving traffic to them. To date it is all over the place with no real direction, and that’s why nothing much has happened to my earnings over the past year. They have pretty much stayed the same, and that’s a pity as it could have been quite different if I was organized and focused.
So, make a plan, and work with it and on it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, you can always make it better over time. You just need to start.
If you also work with niche websites, one plan of approach could be to set aside a day a week per site (depending how many you have) and just work on that site on that day. Even if it’s only 1/2 hour. Work out what’s important and when and how to do what you have to do.
Please, we have to make sure we do not end up as the next Internet Marketing Casualty – we all need more self discipline and less distraction.
A very good online tool to getting organized and creating “mind maps” to keep you on track is “MindMeister“. It is definitely worth having a look at.
I apologize to you all in case I sound like rambling on, it’s just something I find really, really important and have big trouble doing myself. I am very upset about it, and I want to just remind you all of how precious our time is and how we waste it so often by being unfocused, and therefore not getting any further to achieving our goals.

I absolutely agree with you. Niche websites are perhaps the coolest way to earn online without actually having to plead and persuade anyone (as in email marketing). And staying focused is again the most important thing if you indeed want to make serious money online. Running here and there every two days isn’t going to make more than pennies!

I think adsense earnings are ‘safer’ than income from email lists. Thats just my opinion though. It sounds like you are on the right track, just need to focus on your plan and things will work out.
Petra, I agree with your getting organized and having a plan. Are you going to use wordpress blog sites or conventional static sites? have you explored the marketplace at ClickBank for ‘high gravity’ popular, digital affiliate products? Many there pay 75% commission compared with say, 5 or 10 percent at Amazon. Just present something in a unique ‘sub-niche’ way with a review or writeup. I love CB myself.. Geoff D.

Geoff, I am very likely using wordpress blog sites but working mainly with pages, whilst still running a blog in the background as to keep the site fresh. I have worked with Clickbank, even have my own book out – Affiliate Marketing Success – but I find physical products still sell better than ebooks (or software).
There is nothing wrong with not building a list. I do build a newsletter list, but it isn’t my big thing or anything. It is just an incentive as I write new content just for the newsletter subscribers. But my fun comes in from the blogging itself, and commenting on other blogs which helps build relationships with other bloggers.

I agree with you. I also experience that niche blog is the best way to earn from blogging. It is because niche blog naturally get targeted traffic so it is more easy to convert.

Petra you are fully true. Building Niche Websites are the best way to make money online. with niche website and a Google Adsense account its easy to earn huge with replacement of ads. Thanks for sharing with me such informative info.
I think doing it ‘yourself’ often makes you unorganized, you should start outsourcing ‘part’ of the work and this automatically brings accounting and organization to the whole process. I don’t often create mind maps unless I am thinking about a HUGE project, simple text notes help organize smaller projects.
One of the things I’ve learned last 4 years is that if we leave something for tomorrow, tomorrow becomes never because no matter how small the task is we need to take the first step right at that time! Specially IM there is many tasks are repetitive and time consuming(Specially Backlinking) therefore we tend to delay them for till next day but unfortunately for tomorrow we’re still busy with other tasks, etc. So we need to develop The now habit!
At least you recognize what your issue is. Most people just sort of slack off and stop what they are doing. Many people think that internet marketing is just the easiest thing in the world. People running around in their PJ’s making money. While most of the time I am in PJ’s, I still spend a ton of time working. That’s where most newcomers fail. They feel that they should only have to spend a little time just because they are working from home. This is simply not the case!
Stay consistent and write about what you know, that’s what I say.
Building niche website at this particular time work for me. My adsense and amazon commision revenue are coming from niche website. I strongly believe that is the best way for me to gain income from internet using niche website

Yes, we have to make a lot of plans of action to do it right, and niche blogs aren’t just putting crappy content on the web. I recently launched my blog in the niche of carpet cleaners and don’t want to take it the wrong way and I’m planning to make it a great site for people searching for carpet cleaners.
So, as you said, I’m getting a lot of plans of action, but it’s really hard to make it right and, sometimes, I ask me “WHY?” as you said, and on these times we feel very angry!

I’m OK with SEO so I’m not bad at getting a good position in the SERPS, don’t know much about social networking though.
I blog about Public Speaking, which is my niche, and at the moment I’m just building up a readership.

Creating niche websites isn’t really every bodies cup of tea. Unless u are really passionate or a expert on whatever u want to create a site for, will only result in a uninspiring content which may not get u ‘good’ earnings. Planning and researching well should take care of this issue

Sounds like great advice, I like the “signing” – it really shows you that you have “done” it.
How many hours does it take to build up to say maybe $100 per month in online revenue from affiliate commission?
Oh, I can’t tell you that. It depends on the niche and products you have, and on many other factors. There is no number you can put on it, I guess. Some get there fast, others (like me) it can take a long time. The important thing is not to give up.
Getting organized is key.
So is focus, discipline and taking action!

Just thought I would pop past and say hello.
One task and one day at a time is my motto! Like you I do find it hard to stay focused and can very easily get sidetracked. One thing I have done in the last couple of weeks is organise my little one to go into daycare for 2 days a week so I can actually focus!
Everything was fine when little one was having afternoon naps, however now she is 3 and doesn’t want to sleep! 🙁
I agree completely with writing out a plan and lists of tasks to do. It is the only way I have managed to stay focused. I also have a pin-board of my goals that sits above my head. This works as well as I read them everyday that I get on the computer.
I am about to purchase a small whiteboard and place it next to my pin board so I can write my daily tasks to do. I am hoping this will improve my time management as well.

As for your reluctance to work on email list building it is quite understandable but please give it another look.
I keep reading and hearing from so many successful people about the importance of building email list and I am convinced that it should not be completely left out.
There is nothing wrong with focusing on niche sites but even there building a list can only help and enhance your business.
People who are interested in your subject do want more information about it and will be happy to get it.

One of the challenges many people face when learning to build niche websites is how to pick a successful niche and a domain name to go with it. Over the past year, I’ve found that one of the best ways of all is to let others do the work for me. cheeky isn’t it??
Good post Petra. Choosing a good niche subject to base your website around is one of the most important aspects of making money off of your articles.
Lots of truths here Petra, enjoyed the read. Your statement “we all need more self discipline and less distraction” rings so true.
The internet noise can be toned down though and the way to do that is to find the niche you truly enjoy.
Two things then happen,
1) Everything you do in the niche, right down to researching and writing will be a lot easier if you enjoy the topic.
2) Productivity will increase as the time afforded to the niche will not seem like a chore. You will even find yourself looking forward to sitting down to do more.

Being organised and having a plan to work off of, is vital. But sticking to that plan and being commited to it, is even more so. Far most people aren’t committed to keep doing what they are at a constant manner – and so (it’s such a shame) they just stop doing what they did. And don’t succeed.

I appreciate your focus on niche sites since they do not require email list building and things associated with it. Niche sites are not too much time intensive.
Being organized and doing what one knows needs to be done is easier said than done. I think that most people struggle with this and I’m one of them.

That’s OK, nobody’s perfect. And sometimes the Akismet filters a good comment too. One of my online friends posted a comment on my blog recently and Akismet didn’t like it. I had to retrieve it.
MY internet marketing is gaining some traction. I published my own ebook a little over a month ago and that is helping a lot with my list building. The book is free so you can check it out.
I know that you are focusing more on niche marketing but there is a section on traffic and YouTube in the book which may be useful to you even if you don’t want to build a list.

Interesting article. I totally agree with the niche website thing (as you can obviously see from my Commentluv link 😉 ). And I agree, it’s easy to tell yourself when you’re away from your website to do this and that, and today we’re going to try this and that, but somehow (at least for me) I end up doing all sorts of things when I finally get in front of my computer. All these ideas tend to get mixed up in a mindless jumble and I get nothing done. Nowadays, I take half an hour to absolutely do just one thing and I stick with it. 🙂

Niche Websites are great for passive incomes. Once they’re established it should free up more time and give you a greater chance to stay “caught up” with the family.

I think having a solid plan is something that is so important to not only online businesses, but all business. You’d never see a Fortune 500 company trying to enter a new market without a plan and it should be the same for blogger and internet marketers in general.

Thanks for sharing this overlooked step. I’ve actually been experiencing this same issue with my site, only with formal wear instead of beach wear. Hopefully your advice will help out.
Judging by the experience of my colleagues, who also tried to promote the sites with the sole purpose that would participate in affiliate programs, a lot of money would be made if very lucky, because the need is very crowded, but not 100 or even 1000 visitors a little each day.

Agree with you 100%. My niche is the magic business. I wouldn’t do anything without writing down “to do lists” etc.
Somehow, I find that I can relate to you you very well, Petra, because what you have mentioned is exactly what I have been through. I lacked the focus and seems to be wondering around in search of the next best thing and sad to say, I’ve wasted too much time doing so and my income has not been changing much all these years. Well, anyway, I’m determined to change and be more focus and hopefully would see a jump in my income in the coming years.

You’re doing great but the approach I am going to go through is based on the one first introduced by Ken Envoy
Is that “Site Sell”? I just googled it and he came up as the founder of Site Sell. Never had a look at it, I have to admit.
Making niches websites is the best way to make money, agree with that but sometimes it is very hard to drive traffic to them because the niche is too big to fight against the competitors! So we need to make a very ig plan to know how to “beat” them.
The whole thing is coming from this, traditionally once you had your content pages, you would normally upload them to your site and monetize them with affiliate links and pay par click programmes such as Google’s Adsense. However, why not make it easy on yourself and gain an added search engine advantage.
In this business your best strategy should be based upon driving targeted visitors to your website. Keyword research is partly about exploring your niche ‘target’ market and partly about forcing the search engines to find your pages and rank them highly.
Many people think that having a Niche Web site is a lucrative means of making money on the Internet, but they don’t consider the hard and time consuming work to break into highly competitive keywords on the internet.
You are absolutely right. And it is getting harder to find keywords that are searched for but haven’t got much competition!

Getting organized is the hardest part for me in any project. I have to write everything down and make very specific time frames for myself.
Me, too, but to be honest, I think me not doing it is one of the main reasons I haven’t really advanced more in my earnings so far. If I would be more organized and actually make a plan and stick to it, things would be different.
I totally agree when life starts to give you many obstacles at once it can be stressful. Been there many times so I feel you. Start to not care about organizing and start to waste a lot of time because your mind is focused on your problems. Good post and good luck.

In Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine optimization there is one point that have a lot of energy in itself that is consistency and velocity in work.

Getting organized is definitely very important in any project or endevour.
I’m not a very organized person so when I started IM I didn’t really have a plan but with the amount of information I was able to gather it soon became apparent that I need to get myself organized.
Got my own system but still get lost sometimes 🙂
